Wow! The reading today must be one of the most dramatic so far. I was so tickled to get to Jesus' coming home and revealing to friends and neighbors His purpose or as we learned in "Breaking Free", His job description. But look how they respond to the truth He speaks - rage enough to attempt murder.
How interesting that in the next town (Capernaum), His message was met with amazement and was spread abroad. What's the difference? It looks like the hometown folks just did not know who He was. In fact they said, "Is this not Joseph's son?" (I guess they had not heard He was conceived by the Holy Spirit.) But in Capernaum they realized, "His message was with authority". They knew He had to be at least someone important.
Really, the only clear response to who Jesus is came from the demon,"I know who You are - the Holy One of God".
It is so vitally important that we realize who this Jesus is! Who it is that is speaking to us.
Lord, help us to know You, to desire to know You, and to delight in falling in love with You.
